Bhopal: In a tragic development, seven persons including a seer and three women died as tents collapsed due to heavy rain and thunderstorm at the Simhastha in Ujjain on Thursday evening.
Sources told NewsBits.in that at least another 70 persons were injured as thunderstorm and rainfall caused over 50 tents to collapse in the huge congregation area.
Power lines also fell leading to kind of stampede in the mela. The names of those who died include Prahlad, Bhagirath, Rishi Prasad, Bhooti Bai, Dhabu Bai, Amba Bai & Govind Lodhi.
Initially, the in-charge minister Bhupendra Singh claimed that though some light weight tents had collapsed and few people injured slightly, there were no casulaties. But later state government admitted that seven pilgrims had died.
Around 15 lakh devotees were reportedly in Ujjain on Thursday as the Panchkroshi Yatra is on and another parv snan is scheduled on May 6.
