Bhopal: The Jha Commission report, recently tabled in Madhya Pradesh assembly has proven major corruption in the rehabilitation of people affected by Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) and vindicated its stand, the Narmada Bachao Andolan has said.
The organisation has demanded CBI inquiry to lay bare all the aspects of the massive corruption and registering of civil and criminal cases against the involved officials. The NBA has also demanded that the policy of cash compensation in lieu of land should be immediately scrapped and rehabilitation should be completed according to prior orders of Supreme Court.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NBA has said that the Jha Panel report found that 1561 out of the 3366 registries of land for affected people were faked. “This is not possible without nexus of officials of Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA), middlemen, state government and bank officials for the huge corruption. These involved persons should be immediately booked,” the organisation has said.
The NBA has said that the MP government tabled the report and a government resolution to take action against those involved in fraud on last day of the monsoon session of state assembly (July 29) so that the report could not be discussed.
Also the NBA has condemned the fact that the government has given clean chit to officials in the entire fraud and rather is planning action on the affected people.
The organisation has further said that the Jha Panel has made it clear that the construction work at rehabilitation site was far below standard and the site wasn’t worth habitation.
The commission has recommended major repairs or reconstruction on the site and unless that is done, none of the affected people could be forced to go there, the NBA has said.
“In such situation, why the authorities are in hurry to close the gates of the dam project and submerge the affected area is a big question. We warn them not to try to close down the gates without completing the rehabilitation process,” the statement says.
