Bhopal: At least seven people died and over 100 were hospitalised during last two days, as diarrhoea epidemic struck the Ghansaur block of Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh.
Doctors told media persons that the tribal people have come down with diarrhoea due to impact of intense heat wave. The area has been reporting temperatures between 43-45 degrees constantly.
Sources said that dozens of people were rushed to the district hospital after experiencing severe symptoms like vomitting and loose motions. However, seven died during course of treatment. Patients of the disease are being reported from a dozen villages.
Diarrhoea is a typical waterborne disease that strikes whenever people are forced to drink unclean water and sanitary conditions are absent. Currently, many drought-hit areas of MP are facing severe water crisis.
Medical team from Jabalpur rushed to Seoni to take control of the situation. The district collector Dhanraju S was personally monitoring the situation.
The Congress MLA from Lakhnadon constituency, which includes the Ghansaur area, announced financial aid of Rs 5000 each to the kin of those dead, sources added.
