BHOPAL: People have hit the streets against the controversial citizenship act bill (now Act) and have staged demonstrations in the city.

Terming it as discriminating and against the spirit of the constution, people came out and raised their voice against the law. 'We reject it', this was the message at the first protest that was staged at the Iqbal Maidan.

A human chain was also formed on the occasion to express solidarity with all the citizens in the country irrespective of their caste, colour, region and gender. Carrying placards, citizens expressed their anger and vowed to oppose it strongly.

The Madhya Pradesh Loktantrik Adhikar Manch that gave the first call for protest, asserted that the law is a clear violation of the Articles 14 and 15 of the constitution. The state can't formulate laws that differentiate between citizens and this law infringes on the secular character of the country too.
