Bhopal: A municipality official who refused to start water supply in Amla of Betul was shot at by an angry youth from water-crisis hit Bhim Nagar locality of the town. Bhim Nagar was going without water supply since five days.

The incident comes just two days after the Betul district administration imposed section 144 due to severe water crisis for preventing violence by stopping people to assemble in large numbers.

The official Ramesh Chadokar, a valve-man with Amla Municipality, was shot after midnight of Tuesday by one Lakhan Dingiya, using a country made pistol after the former refused to start the water supply.

Chadokar has been grievously injured and is undergoing treatment at Padhar Hospital in Betul. The accused has been arrested.

Many districts in drought-hit Madhya Pradesh are reeling under severe water crisis as summer is in its last phase.

In another incident, police had to cane charge people in Malviya Nagar of Indore as they resorted to road blockade demanding regular water supply.

Cattle deaths, migration and long distance lugging of drinking water are common in water-crisis hit areas. Violent incidents have also been reported.
