Ujjain: As many as 41 foreign pilgrims have fallen ill and have been admitted to the government hospital.

Most of these foreigners belong to Japan and had come to attend the Simhastha Kumbh. Alarmed, the administration swung in action.

It is suspected that they fell ill due to food poisoning. These foreigners are undergoing treatment, said government sources.

The foreigners were in the camp of Pilot Baba. Most of them complained of fever and diarrhoea. It is suspected that food poisoning caused the sickness.

Doctors said that it could be due to consumption of contaminated water too. Chief Medical Officer NK Trivedi said that the patients are being administered medication.

Earlier, Sadhus had complained of poor facilities in their camps. There were complaints about contaminated water and lack of other amenities too. Seven persons had died when storm and rain lashed the city recently.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had visited Ujjain to oversee the arrangements, after the incident. There was also controversy over BJP's move for Dalit snan during the Simhastha.
