RAIPUR/JAGDALPUR: The police claim to have killed seven Maoists including three women, in the forests near Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.

The incident occurred near Tiriya on Saturday. The anti-Naxal operations team including district reserve guards and special task force (STF) of state police were involved in the operation.

The officials said that they had got inputs about Maoists' movement in the region. As around 50 armed Maoists had arrived here for a meeting and for control over the area, the policemen after getting the information, reached the spot.

Police claim that there was an exchange of fire and later seven bodies of Maoists were found. The police recovered nearly half-a-dozen guns including an INSAS from the spot. Later, the bodies were sent to Jagdalpur.

The officials said that efforts are on to ascertain the identity of those killed, and it can't be said if any senior Maoist cadre was among those who was killed.
