Bhopal: A serial killer, who killed at least five unemployed men, just to get as little as Rs 5000 from them, has been arrested by Shivpuri police.

The killer Banmali Joshi, 45, was out on bail for a previous murder, when he committed last three of the five murders. He was held from Gwalior recently.

Joshi would lure unemployed people with promise of jobs and then ask them to bring whatever cash or valuables they could. Once these unsuspecting victims met him at secluded spot, he would kill them before looting them of their possessions, police sources said.

The assailant confessed to the multiple murders during his interrogation by the Shivpuri police. According to sources, Joshi committed his first crime in Mungaoli (Ashoknagar district) in year 2007, when he killed one Mulayam Pal with the bait of giving him job.

Then he killed one Suraj Jatav in 2008 in Shivpuri and got life imprisonment for the crime. However, he was released on bail in 2015 and since then he committed three more murders, all using the same modus operandi.

Police are further investigating the matter to find out Joshi’s involvement in any other criminal activities.
