Bhopal: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan is on a two-day trip to Bhopal, the city of his birth.

During the visit, Rajan was handed over his birth certificate. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan gave him the certificate in the afternoon.

The RBI governor was born in Bhopal in 1963, when his father R Govind Rajan was posted here.

Rajan had spent a part of his childhood in Bhopal. The birth certificate had been prepared when Rajan's visit to the State capital was planned.

The RBI governor's father was an intelligence officer, who was posted in Bhopal when Raghuram Rajan was born. Later, the family shifted to Delhi.

The RBI governor is here to attend meeting with officials of rural banks. He also visited Sanchi to see the famous Buddhist stupas and went to the nearby Salamatpur town where he met local residents.

Rajan asked them about banking and credit facilities. He asked local residents if they still went to money-lenders to borrow money. The reply was in negative.
