Bhopal: Following strong protests alleging police negligence in the dual murder case of Bhopal lawyer and his brother at Harda, the superintendent of police of Harda, Prembabu Sharma, has been shunted out of office.

The order, transferring Prembabu Sharma to police headquarters in Bhopal, was issued by the state home department on Friday afternoon. Aditya Pratap Singh, a 2011 batch IPS officer, till now posted as commandant of 13th battalion of Special Armed Forces (SAF) in Gwalior, has been made the new Harda SP.

Following the recovery of bodies of the Bhopal lawyer Naveen Agrawal and his brother Sudhir Agrawal in a charred condition from jungles of Hoshangabad district on Thursday, the kin of the deceased and residents of Harda staged a strong protest in Harda, demanding action against police chief Sharma and other officials.

They alleged that despite giving prior information to police about meeting of deceased with accused and the associated of the brothers giving information about their abduction of May 23 itself, police failed to provide any protection or expedite investigation. The bodies were recovered after three days.

The in-charge of Sirali police station (under which the spot of crime Mohanpur village falls) VS Ghuraiya was suspended on May 25, but the protestors were demanding action on SP and sub-divisional officer of police. They refused to cremate the bodies until orders to this extent were issued.

The chief minister Shivraj Singh reportedly assured the Agrawal family on Thursday night that the SP would be removed, following which they took possession of the bodies on Friday morning.
