KANPUR: A woman who was missing for the last four months, had actually been murdered and her body was buried in a high security zone in Kanpur.

The woman, Ekta Gupta, 32, who was wife of a businessman, used to visit the gym on a regular basis. It was the gym trainer, Vimal Soni, who has now been arrested.

Vimal was also missing since June-end this year. The woman's family had lodged a complaint. But, initially, it was suspected that she had gone missing along with the trainer. But this was beyond anyone's imagination that she had been killed and that the police would later find the mortal remains.

In an idea that seems straight out of Drishyam movie, Vimal buried the body deep in the most unlikely place--the campus that has bungalows of top officials nearby, close to the DM's residence. After Ekta went missing, her husband tried to locate her and contacted police, as well as wrote to top politicians.

Incidentally, the prime suspect, Vimal was spotted in Punjab. He was working at a hotel and didn't engage or talk with locals. However, when a Kanpur based person saw him, the information reached police. Subsequently, it was verified and the police team left for Punjab.

The Uttar Pradesh police caught him and brought to Kanpur. Vimal tried to mislead the police. He first said that he had thrown body in the Ganges. Later, he told a separate story. But, finally, police managed to get the complete story out of him. He accepted that he killed her.

He said that as he was about to get married, when he gave this information to Ekta, she got angry. Ekta was married but was close to him [though her family refuses to accept it]. Vimal says that Ekta was extremely upset and argued with him. After a heated exchange in the car, he hit her and fell unsconscious.

Later, he allegedly murdered her and straight went to the high security zone and dug a pit. He buried the body deep inside it, and left. He went to his sister's house and after leaving the car in Kanpur, he went to a relative's house in another town in UP. He went incommunicado and later reached Punjab, where he found work at a hotel. Now, he has been arrested. Ekta has been survived by her husband and two kids. The family has demanded death penalty for Vimal.
