BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh has once again registered the highest number of rapes in the country. 

The State recorded 4391 rapes in the year 2015, says the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report that has now been released.

Maharashtra comes second with 4144 rapes. Rajasthan is at third place with 3644 incidents and Uttar Pradesh follows with 3025 cases of rapes recorded in the year.

MP records 13.5% less rapes compared to last year

But this is the first time in a decade that figure of rapes has come down in MP compared to previous year. In last year's report, the figure was much higher. MP had registered 5076 rapes in the country.

This year the figure has come down significantly. Earlier, it had been rising by every passing year, steadily. Overall, when it comes to crimes against women, UP is at the top. UP registered 35,000 crimes followed by Maharashtra 31,000 Rajasthan 28,000 and MP 24,000.

UP ahead in crimes against Dalits, Rajasthan second

In crimes against Scheduled Castes or Dalits, UP tops the country with 8075 incidents, followed by Rajasthan 8028 and Bihar 7893 incidents. Last year also Uttar Pradeh had the highest cases of atrocities against Dalits. 

Rajasthan leads in crimes against Tribals

As far as crimes against Scheduled Tribes are concerned, Rajasthan records registered 3952 cases. MP comes at the second place with 2279 crimes against Tribals. The pattern is same as the last year when Rajasthan and MP were first and second in atrocities on tribals.
