Bhopal: Though life has been thrown off gear in large areas of Madhya Pradesh, especially northeastern parts, heavy showers that are lashing since last three days have caused the rain coffers of state to overflow.

Some casualties including five youngsters being washed off in Purwa falls of Rewa district have been reported due to the heavy rainfall. Manu major and medium rivers and rivulets are at spate, disrupting connectivity in Bundelkhand and Mahakoshal regions.

In Damoh, at least three villages were evacuated and another 10 were put on alert as water levels swelled in nearby rivers.

The good part is that rain starved Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions in northeast MP are receiving heavy showers early in the season and it would help not only in ground water recharge, but also agriculture, feel experts.

WARNING

The MeT office has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall for many areas of MP during next 24 hours as the influence of a depression system over Satna in Northeast MP continues.

Among the areas that could receive heavy to very heavy rain till Friday include districts of Bhopal division, Damoh, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Agar, Sahajapur, Ashoknagar, Hoshangabad and Harda districts.

Heavy rainfall is also likely in Datia, Guna, Betul, Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Chhatarpur, Dhar, Ratlam, Khargone and Khandwa districts.

Alert has been issued for Tikamgarh, Ashoknagar, Bhopal, Agar, Shajapur, Chhatarpur, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur and Panna districts.

EXCESS RAIN

As on July 6, Madhya Pradesh as a whole had received 25% excess rain than that expected till this time of the season. Till July 6, the state should have received 171.7mm of rain, but received 214mm. Similarly West MP subdivision (30 districts) received 190.7mm in place of expected 152.8mm (25% extra) while 20 districts in East MP subdivision received 244.4mm against expected 196.3mm (24% excess).

Among the districts to receive glut of rainfall are Ashoknagar – 114% excess, Panna – 113% excess, Vidisha – 96% excess, Rajgarh – 92% and Shivpuri – 88%.

Among the districts that are yet to get good rainfall include – Burhanpur with 66% deficiency and Khargone – 42% deficiency.

Bhopal has received 43% excess rain as of now while Indore has a shortfall of 18%.
