Bhopal: Though the Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday announced that monsoon arrival in Indian peninsula via Kerala would be delayed by almost a week, there is still likelihood that the monsoon onset in Madhya Pradesh would be on time.
Normal date of arrival of monsoon in Madhya Pradesh is June 12/13, depending on whether the monsoon current enters the state from southwestern or southeastern side respectively. For capital Bhopal, the normal onset date is June 13.
Meteorological experts say that the onset timing of monsoon in Kerala does not much impact the progress of monsoon in the other parts of the country. Thus there is always likelihood that the monsoon current might strike state on time.
“The progress of monsoon into central India including Madhya Pradesh depends upon the weather systems that develop after the monsoon onset in southern parts of the country. If conditions are favourable, monsoon can strike on time irrespective of arrival in Kerala,” former director of Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhopal, DP Dubey said.
Though the forecast is of late entry of monsoon into peninsular India, the rainfall is likely to be more than normal. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast monsoon rainfall will be 106 per cent of the long-period average (LPA) and a 94 per cent probability exists that it will be “normal to excess”.
HEAT WAVE
Meanwhile, currently many parts of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal are experiencing heat wave conditions. Bhopal experienced the hottest season of day on Sunday with the day temperature rising to 44.3 degrees Celsius. The MeT office has predicted that the heat wave conditions would continue for next two days in isolated parts of state, except Indore division. Khajuraho remained one of the hottest places with maximum temperature of 46.1 degrees.
