BHOPAL: Internationally acclaimed poet Rahat Indori, who was admitted to hospital after testing positive for Coronavirus, has passed away in a hospital in Indore.
Rahat Indori, 70, was a renowned Urdu poet, and had attended thousands of mushairas across the world. He wrote lyrics for several Bollywood movies. He was born in Indore in 1950.
Rahat Indori had the moral authority to challenge the authority, and was always known for couplets that were remembered. One of his famous couplet is:
Sabhi ka khoon shaamil hai yahaan ki mitti mein
Kisi ke baap ka Hindostan thodi hai
One of the foremost poets of the era, his couplets were oft-quoted in conversations. He had a unique style of rendition. The chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and top leaders of Congress and BJP, have expressed grief over his demise.
