Bhopal: Passengers aboard the New-Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express were left horrified on Friday when they found a boy hanging from the door of the superfast train that was running at speed of about 100 km per hour at that time.
After initial shock, the passengers informed the pantry staff of the train following which the chain was pulled to stop the train and the kid rescued.
By then the train had travelled about 20km from Ganj Basoda (Vidisha), the last stoppage of the train, sources said.
The terrified kid, fortunately completely safe, was handed over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and then on to Bhopal ChildLine.
It later transpired that the kid’s name was Golu and he is aged 10. His father runs a small sweetmeat shop at Ganj Basoda and he had a dream to go to Bhopal.
He was loitering at the station on Friday and tried to get aboard the Shatabdi Express during its very brief halt. However, the door did not open and he latched on to the door handle.
As the train gathered speed, Golu managed to somehow hold on to the train and was fortunately rescued after being spotted by passengers.
