Horrific: Self-styled Godman raped minor girl in Madhya Pradesh, gets arrested

REWA/SINGRAULI: A self-styled godman has been arrested for gang rape with a minor girl in Rewa.

The accused--Samarth Tripathi alias Mahant Sitaram is known for his discourse, especially, recital of 'Ram Katha'.

This incident occurred in the circuit house in Rewa. In fact, the girl was made to drink liquor and subsequently raped.

The accused's associates had allegedly brought liquor that was consumed by Tripathi as well. Then the room was shut and she was raped. When the girl was being taken away in a car, later, she managed to jump out of the vehicle and escaped.

After the issue reached authorities, Tripathi fled the Circuit House. As people came to know about the incident, there was anger in the town. Tripathi had left Rewa and was on way to Singrauli. Police said that he had gone to a barber's shop to get his appearance changed in order to hoodwink police.

However, the police got a tip from the informer and he was arrested in Waidhan. Opposition parties demanded tough action. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who was in Rewa the next day, directed officials to demolish the accused' house as well as take stern action against all those involved in the crime.

Another accused, Vinod Pandey, has also been arrested. The police have formed several teams and efforts are on to nab the remaining co-accused. All of them have been booked for illegal confinement, rape, intimidation and causing hurt. The sections under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) have also been added.
