Grenades, pistols seized from residence of BJP leader who has 47 criminal cases against him

BHOPAL: As many as 17 hand grenades, over half-a-dozen pistols and 110-odd cartridges were recovered from the residence of a BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh.
Sanjay Yadav, who is party leader, has 47 criminal cases against him. The police conducted raid at his residence in Sendhwa town in Barwani district.
The recovery of weapons, especially, grenades and firearms, has come as a big embarassment to the party. Yadav is son of the municipal council chairperson. Now, action is being initiated against him under the National Security Act.
Right now, model code of conduct has been in the efft and the action was taken ahead of the Lok Sabha election. Superintendent of Police (SP) YD Bhutia told media persons that six 9 mm pistols, two 32 bore pistols, 17 grenades and 111 cartridges were recovered.
The handgrenades were kept hidden in a can that was kept on the premises. After the recovery of arms and ammunitions, police have registered case against Yadav under sections of Arms Act and Explosives Act as well. Efforts are on to arrest all the accused.
Two gangs involved in crime, extortions in town
Police said that there were mainly two big gangs that operate in the town. There has been gang war between them in the past. One of them is led by Sanjay Yadav and the other by Gopal Joshi.
The latter has around 30 criminal cases registered against him in several police stations.Both the gangs are involved in criminal activities including loot and extortion. The activities of the gangs have led to insecurity among citizens. Local officials said that action is being taken against all such history-sheeters.
