Bhopal: With the mega religious congregation Simhastha over, the electioneering for the Ghoradongri by-poll in Betul has gathered steam.

On Monday, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan conducted a roadshow covering 13 villages and also held a public meeting. He promised development for the constituency and underlined that the Congress - on a consistent losing trend in all elections - would be able to offer nothing to the people.

Meanwhile, former union minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath held public meetings at nearby Chhindwara, taking upon the BJP for failing to keep all its poll promises.

The Ghoradongri by-poll is scheduled for May 30 and the counting would be on June 2. Till now, the campaigning for the election was somewhat low-key with CM Chouhan remaining engaged with Simhastha activities.

BJP has fielded Mangal Singh Dhurve, district panchayat president of Betul against Congress' veteran Pratap Singh Uikey, who was minister of state in erstwhile Digvijaya Singh cabinet.

The by-poll was necessitated because of passing away of sitting BJP MLA Sajjan Singh Uikey.
