RAIPUR: Two separate FIRs have been registered against TV anchor Arnab Goswami, one of them for allegedly promoting enmity among sections of the society.

The first case was filed at the Civil Lines police station in Raipur in Chhattisgarh.

The complainants alleged that he created an atmosphere of hate with the programme on Palghar killings, where he allegedly 'tried to incite people with his inflammatory language in the programme that could cause riots in the country ...'.

"Goswami said that Hindu saints were killed but Sonia Gandhi is silent.......Sonia of Italy is silent, if a Maulvi or Padri was killed, would she have remained silent...should Hindus remain silent......she will send report to Italy that after forming government in Maharashtra the Hindu saints were killed", mentioned the complainants in the case that was lodged in Raipur.

Health minister TS Singh Deo and Manoj Markam filed the FIR. The police have registered a case under sections 153 A, 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class....) and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Besides, another FIR was registered in the same city.

In this case, a Congress leader Girish Dueby complained that Republic TV editor Arnab Gowami misled the viewers by twisting the statement of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi (latter's press conference) regarding the Coronavirus. "Centre has already said that any false news or rumour regarding Covid 19 can't be circulated and it is an offence, hence action must be taken", says the plaint. The police have registered a case in this regard as well.

CASE REGISTERED IN MAHARASHTRA TOO

In Maharashtra too, complaints were made in different cities against Goswami. A case was registered in Nagpur as well. He has been booked under sections 117, 120 (B), 153, 153A, 153B, 295A, 298, 500, 504, 505 (2), 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of local Congress leaders.

Similarly, complaints have been filed in Telangana and other states. Some Congress leaders have said that they would file case in the court, as there was not a single person from minority community who was accused in Palghar, but the channel tried to give it a communal colour.
