Bhopal: The centralized online counseling process for admissions to government and private engineering colleges in state would commence from June 15.
Admissions would be conducted to about 78,000 seats in 210-odd engineering colleges across the state. Initially, the admissions would be on the basis of scores of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) - Mains.
The aspirants would be able to register online and make choices of colleges and branches till month end. On June 30, the JEE-Mains scores would be announced and a state-level merit list would be chalked out. The seat allotments would be done after this, on basis of merit and choice of colleges/branches made by the aspirants.
After two rounds of seats allotments on JEE basis, an additional allotment round on the basis of class 12 merit would also be conducted, to fill up available vacant seats, sources said.
During the academic session 2015-16, about 39,000 of the 85,000 available seats had remained vacant in the engineering colleges.
The poor engineering admissions scenario has been continuing since several years now in keeping with the national trend.
Flustered private engineering colleges surrendered about 8000 seats during last academic session and this year too, about 6000-7000 seats have been surrendered. About three dozen colleges have asked the directorate of technical education (DTE) not to include part of seats available in the counseling process.
COLLEGE LEVEL COUNSELING
Though there were apprehensions that the DTE might scrap the college-level counseling (CLC) system from this year, sources said that it would continue, but the format would be changed.
The CLC is also likely to be held online with such format that the students do not have to submit their original documents to the college and merit-cum-choice system of seat allotments would be strictly followed, sources said.
The private colleges have already expressed their concern over the reported move to scrap the CLC. The chairman of Association of Technical Professional Institutes (ATPI), JN Chouksey has said that if college level round is scrapped the admissions would drop by further 5000 seats.
“The CLC round gives those students, who could not for some reason participate in centralized online process, a chance to take admissions. The process is quite transparent and fair,” he said.
