BHOPAL: Did you know the maximum speed limit at which you can drive your car in Madhya Pradesh?

If your vehicle crosses 80 kmph speed on MP roads, you may face penal action.

Thre is provision for strict action for violating the rule, say government officials.

Not many are probably aware but the state government plans to create awareness in this regard. This has been reiterated in view of accidents and the deaths due to the rising number of mishaps in MP.

Instructions have been issued in the meeting of Road Safety Policy Implementing Committee to publicise this provision. It was decided to announce that there will be action if the speed limit is crossed.

Additional Chief Secretary, Home, BP Singh chaired the meeting, which was attended by DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla too. Singh asked that officers of traffic police and public works department will conduct joint inspection at accident-prone areas. Necessary improvements will be done till September 2016.

Singh issued instructions to police, health, PWD and transport departments to depute one nodal officer for road safety and hold their monthly meeting to ensure regular implementation of the related provisions. Besides, instructions were issued to form district level committee headed by district collector on road safety.

Officials on the ground feel that more measures are needed to ensure safe driving and for creating awareness in this regard. On roads outside cities, it is not easy to keep a check on vehicles' movements and their speed. There is lack of adquate checking even in cities when it comes to over-speeding. However, officials feel that informing citizens about the speed limit is a first step towards checking mishaps.
