RAIPUR: Activists marched towards the Chhattisgarh Assembly, demanding that the Chhattisgarhi language should be given its due in the State.

The activists were carrying placards, asking for use of Chhattisgarhi in government offices in the State.

They also demanded that the Assembly proceedings should be conducted in Chhattisgarhi, as it was the regional language.

Policemen were already deployed and the rally was stopped near Pandri. The activists said that the movement would continue until Chhattisgarhi language gets its due status in the State.

While Chhattisgarh Kranti Sena had organised the protest march, there were members from other groups too, who participated in the rally. The memorandum was handed over to the officials, regarding the demand.

Chhattisgarhi activists have been demanding that the language should be taught in all schools in the tribal dominated state which was carved out of Madhya Pradesh, 16 years ago. Lately, there have been growing voices in support of Chhattisgarhi.
