Bhopal: Two senior Congress leaders from Madhya Pradesh - MP Kamal Nath and AICC general secretary Digivijaya Singh are those in forefront seeking course correction within party following recent poll debacle.
While Digvijaya Singh, former chief minister of MP, recently said in media that a ‘major surgery’ was required in the party in view of its poor electoral performance post 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Chhindwara MP and ex-union minister Kamal Nath also spoke of necessary ‘reforms and changes’ in the party.
Both the leaders have however stopped short of making direct comments on the matter of vice-president Rahul Gandhi taking the helms of Congress. They have both left it to the Gandhis/leadership to decide.
Congress lost Madhya Pradesh over 12 years ago to BJP when Digvijaya Singh had been a chief minister for two terms and there has been no significant change in its fortunes in the state since. This is despite fact that of these 12 years, the party was ruling at the centre for 10 years.
Kamal Nath was among the only two former union ministers from state who could retain their seats in Lok Sabha during the Narendra Modi swept elections in 2014.
Now, with the age-old party at its nadir in electoral politics, the senior leaders from MP have both spoken about need to change course, though they have not indicated exactly how that could be achieved.
