Bhopal: In a major victory for residents of Bhopal, the smart city project has been shifted from Shivaji Nagar.

Now, the North TT Nagar--the available vacant land in this part of the city, would be used for building smart city.

The decision was taken after public protest for days and opposition parties' campaigns over the issue.

Bhopal residents were concerned that thousands of trees would be cut in New Bhopal, which would further hurt the City.

Already, the green cover of Bhopal has depleted sharply. In a recent report, NewsBits.in reported how greenery has come down by 77% in just four decades.

Citzens and traders were up in arms. Local residents also took up marches and vowed not to let trees cut. Finally, the government bowed to public pressure.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today decided that the Smart city project would be implemented at North TT Nagar, instead of Shivaji Nagar that was earlier chosen for it.
