Chhattisgarh: Congress leader’s mother hacked to death, father critical in axe attack

RAIPUR: The mother of a former Congress MLA was brutally killed in Chhattisgarh.

The victim, Godavari Deharia, was mother of Congress leader Shiv Deharia.

Unidentified persons attacked the house in which the former legislator’s parents live near Raipur.

While Deharia’s father Asa Ram was critically injured in the attack, his mother was killed. She was rushed to hospital but doctors said that she had already died.

The Congress leader’s father is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. Shiv Deharia is a Congress leader who was considered close to Ajit Jogi.

He has, however, not supported Jogi’s new party. After the incident, Jogi reached the house and expressed condolence.

Senior Congress leaders including PCC chief Bhupesh  Baghel have expressed grief. The police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.
