Bhopal: BJP's winning spree continues in Madhya Pradesh, as it again trounced Congress in the bypoll election.
The counting for the Ghoradongri bypoll began early in the morning. The BJP has won comfortably.
The party candidate Mangal Singh Dhurve was declared elected by a margin of over 13,000 votes. He defeated veteran Congress leader Pratap Singh Uikey.
Uikey was a former minister in Digvijaya Singhs' cabinet. The constitutency is located in Betul. The election was held after the sitting BJP legislator passed away.
For the Congress, it is a big jolt as the party was pinning hopes on a victory here. A veteran leader was fielded in the election so that the party could win but all the plans failed.
In fact, BJP managed to increase its margin in this election. Earlier, in 2013 election, BJP leader Sajjan Singh Uikey had won by a margin of 8,000 votes. Despite incumbency factory, the margin has gone up.
The BJP has won the election but the party won't take out any victory celebration because of the death of its Shahdol MP, said party sources.
