73-year-old woman threatened, gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh, three persons arrested

BHOPAL: In a shocking incident, a 73-year-old woman was gang-raped in Madhya Pradesh. 

The woman hails from Dhar district in Western part of the state. The incident occurred when she was returning from her niece's residence.

The trio--Rai Singh, Nanu Ram and Jhangu, intercepted her on way and offered her liquor but she refused. One the accused, Nanu Ram's wife had gone to her parents' house and he wanted to take the elderly woman to his house, earlier. 

Subsquently, the trio warned her about a ghost and said that it was too dark now and if she leaves for home, the ghost would harm her. Later, all of them raped her. 

The victim was raped in the fields in Chhadawad village in Dhar district. The woman reached home and later informed her family members about the incident. Initially, the matter reached a local panchayat, as per the local tradition here.

But there was no decision. Dissatisfied, the victim's family approached police. Subsequently, a case was regsitered against the trio. All of them have been booked for gang-rape.
