After Pragya remark, 'First Terrorist Godse' trends at the top on Twitter in India

NEW DELHI: Hours after Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur's remark in parliament led to a controversy, 'Pahla Aatankwadi Godse' was trending at the top on Twitter in India.

Nathuram Godse was held guilty for assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and he was hanged for the crime. Thousands of tweets with the hashtag calling him first terrorist (in India) took it to the top, drawing attention in newsrooms.

The comment was made when she interrupted DMK MP A Raja who was citing Godse's views about why he had killed Gandhi, during a discussion on the special protection group amendment bill.

In fact, after the comment, she claimed that it was made for freedom fighter and martyr Udham Singh, a 'desh bhakt' (patriot). BJP too later said that she had explained to the party that she didn't mean it and used the term 'desh bhakt' for Udham Singh.

The BJP member of parliament who won from Bhopal, has been an accused in the Malegaon blast case too. She has earlier also praised Godse. After her earlier apology, PM Narendra Modi had said that he could never forgive her in true sense (from his heart).
