Activists arrested in raids across India, strong reaction against police action

The Maharashtra police conducted raids and arrested at least four prominent activists from different places in the country.
The arrests were made in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence that took place on December 31 last year. Those detained include Varavara Rao, Vernon Gonzalves, Arun Farreira, Sudha Bhardwaj and Gautam Navlakha.
Also, raids were conducted at several other places. Human rights organisations have reacted sharply to the arrests and the action under the draconian UAPA. [Mumbai August 28, 2018 NewsBits.in]
