Importance of career guidance for students at right juncture stressed at social media meet

BHOPAL: Social media meet on theme of ‘career guidance for school students’ was organised by the UNICEF office of Madhya Pradesh on November 22.
Around 50 social media influencers participated in the interactive meet wherein a session on career guidance programme being run in Government schools of Madhya Pradesh with technical support of UNICEF was conducted.
Anil Gulati, Communication Specialist, UNICEF facilitated the meet and he said that our aim is to share information about the efforts of the state government on career guidance and also spoke on how social media influencers can help in disseminating the information and help to increase its reach.
F A Jami, Education Specialist, UNICEF shared details of the career guidance programme being implemented in the State that involves 500 career options in 21 domains. He spoke about the importance of career guidance for students at right juncture.
He also took the participants through the career guidance portal (careerguidance.unilearn.org.in) with request that the social media influencers spread the information of this career portal using their power of social media.
He also shared that there is another programme ‘Fundoo’ based on UReport for skill development, which has 11 micro courses for school children. These could be accessed by children to build skills for career development. The details of portals offering details of scholarships were also shared.
Rekha Patidar, teacher with CM Rise Government School in BHEL shared her positive experiences with career guidance programme and how it is exposing students of her school and giving them overview on careers available in 21 domains.
Ms Onkush shared her experience of career portal and also how she works with students in guiding them to learn information on various careers. She explained about the variety of career options available and how inquisitive are the students.
Influencers like Sagar Sharma, Nidhi Shukla Pandey, Neetta Manwani, Arpit Jain, Pinki Tiwari, Jyoti Dubey, Madhu Choudhary, Nidhi Rawatiya, Rashmi Goyala, Samarpita and others shared their experience while they were growing up or as parents of children.
One of the suggestions given was to include parental engagement also in the career guidance program, so that parents could also support their children in their understanding of the same.
Sujan Sarkar, Monitoring officer of UNICEF and representatives of DIIYM (Development Initiative Igniting Young Minds) were present at the meet.
