Digital creators of Raipur to support campaign on ‘period friendly world’, climate action

RAIPUR: UNICEF Chhattisgarh in partnership with digital creators organized an online interaction with social media influencers, youth leaders, and civil society representatives to strengthen awareness efforts around World Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28) and World Environment Day (June 5).

The purpose of this initiative was to advance the efforts of the government and other partners. The meet, held on May 25, was anchored by digital creator Sana Tamkeen.

Anil Gulati Communication Specialist, UNICEF Chhattisgarh, while speaking at the meet, emphasised how digital creators and community voices can drive conversations on menstrual health, environmental sustainability, and climate action.

The session witnessed participation from over 20 individuals, including influencers, podcasters and educators.

Biraja Satapathy, WASH Officer at UNICEF Chhattisgarh spoke about menstrual health management, breaking taboos, and the importance of community-wide awareness. Sweta Patnaik (Water, Sanitation and Climate Specialist, UNICEF Chhattisgarh) highlighted the growing impact of climate change on children and communities.

Dr. Gajendra Singh, Health Specialist at UNICEF Chhattisgarh, was also present and encouraged continued collaboration with influencers for wider public outreach. Sana Tamkeen noted the importance of including influencers in social discussions to cause an increased ripple effect.

Participants including Aslam Ahmed Khan, Nidhi Dhanwani, Dr Sudha Verma, Shivam Trivedi, Abdul Aziz Kutty,  Payal Ghogre, Shubham Choudhary, Prakhar Agrawal, Akanksha Shukla, Aastha Verma, and RJ Animesh shared ideas on youth engagement, sustainable menstrual products, climate awareness, and community outreach initiatives.

Discussions also emphasized involving men and boys in conversations around menstrual hygiene and using social media campaigns such as the “Red Dot Challenge” to talk openly about menstrual hygiene and inspire action.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to build stronger partnerships and use digital platforms to amplify awareness and encourage meaningful community participation for period friendly world and on environment for climate action.
