Child Rights Week: Youngsters, kids interact on climate conversation on ghats of Maheshwar

KHARGONE: To mark upcoming World Children's Day (November 20) and the ongoing child rights week, a special youth meeting focusing on environmental conservation was organised at the Maheshwar Ghat over Narmada River.

This event was held under the joint initiative of the Khargone District Administration, UNICEF Madhya Pradesh and Youth for Children on November 16.

This was an interactive meet involving play and learn method with young people and children. The aim was to promote action towards the environment, and convey the importance of climate change and water conservation to young people.

Addressing the young people, Anil Gulati, UNICEF Chief of field office (a.i.) and Communication Specialist, said that young people can act as change makers on climate action and not only take steps to save environment but also spread the same among peers.

“Action is now, and we need to learn and act on it now. You are young and can think about creative ways to spread the information on climate change and what actions we can take to save our environment. And what a better place to talk about it then on the banks of Narmada,” he said.

Anaadi Tiwari from Bhopal and Ritesh Chauhan and Jaya Chopra from Mother Sansthan organized recreational activities with the children, inspiring them to become sensitive towards the environment and children's rights. Around 80 children and young people participated in the same.

Through the program, all participants resolved to make continuous efforts to protect the environment and strengthen children's rights.

This initiative, organized at Ahilya Ghat, Maheshwar, on the concept of "My Day, My Right," and to talk about child rights.

On the occasion, with support of Madhya Pradesh State Tourism Department, Hotel Narmada Resort, Maheshwar was illuminated with blue lighting as part of GoBlue campaign of UNICEF globally. Also the home stay at Mallipura in Dhar was illuminated in blue.
