Blue green nature based solutions' for climate resilient planning discussed with architecture students

BHOPAL: A two day workshop on 'blue green nature based solutions' for climate resilient planning was held at the School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal.
This was organised by the department of environmental planning with support of UNICEF and GIZ India.
Speaking at the inaugural session on day one Kirtiman Awasthi, Senior Advisor, GIZ Delhi spoke on wetlands management of biodiversity and climate protection.
Advisors and Experts from GIZ, Shambhavi Krishna, Kunal Bharat and Jyoti Kashypap, guided the participants and students of school of planning and architecture, on the tools and techniques to work out climate resilient plans.
They shared experiences from Madhya Pradesh, India and across on the wetlands and forest ecosystem services, participatory approaches to landscape planning for conservation of wetland.
Dr Ritesh Kumar, Director, Wetlands International South Asia spoke online with participants of the workshop on the importance of integrating wetlands as nature based solutions for district disaster management planning.
Prof Rama Pandey Head of Landscape Department of School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal, coordinated the workshop and shared how this learning can help students to sharpen their work on climate planning.
Sarbjit Sahota, DRR Specialist, UNICEF India, speaking at the inaugural session of the workshop highlighted that to build climate resilient systems we must actively adopt 'circular thinking' principles, which would help develop flexible infrastructure, policies and practices like regenerative and nutrition sensitive agriculture.
Anil Gulati, Officer in Charge, UNICEF Madhya Pradesh, spoke to the students and participants to come out with workable solutions at ground which can be replicated. He along with Ravindra Pare, Consultant with Public Health Engineering Department, spoke on the water stress and traditional water bodies and shared experiences from Indore.
Students of School of Planning and Architecture had done field work in Rewa district and are working to draw climate resilient plans for six areas in both urban and rural parts of Rewa district. Their work is expected to get sharpened by this workshop to look at nature based solutions on climate resilience.
