After deaths in Indore due to water contamination, human rights commission urged to intervene

BHOPAL: As the death toll due to the supply of contaminated water, went up and the number of those undergoing treatment too touched 150, the rights body has been urged to take action in this regard.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the National Human Rights Commission, asking the latter to order a probe and take action in the case that is related to life and safety of citizens.
"This is a clear violation of Article 21 i.e. right to life, which is in accordancewith the universal declaration of human rights and it is also violation of Article 3 as well as Article 25".
Bhopal-based lawyer, Deepak Bundele has made this complaint and he has mentionedthat the Indore municipal corporation supplied water, which was consumed by the residents nd though there was bad odour in water and inhabitants raised the issue, prompt action was not taken.
As a result, there were deaths of men and women in the city and a large numberof people got sick, who had to be hospitalized and are undergoing treatment in the hospitals in Indore.
In the plaint, he has demanded that the Commission should conduct a probeto ascertain the role of the officials whose laxity, was responsible for these deaths. And, stern action against the officials who are found responsible, must be taken.
It has also been mentioned that Indore Municipal Corporation should be given directions to ensure a system that such incident doesn't recur. Bundele, who consistently raises issues concerning citizens and speaks against violation of human rights, has said that the families of those who died and suffered, must get proper relief and compensation.
Earlier, the local administration tried to avoid mentioning the figure of deaths due to the contaminated water supply in Bhagirathpura. The number of deaths had crossed 16. BJP's veteran leader and minister Kailash Vijayvargiya had been in the midst of controversy when he lost his cool over a journalist's query and used the word 'phokat' and 'ghanta' in response. Later, Vijayvargiya had apologised for his comments.
