BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has links with Saraogi brothers, the kingpins of the Rs 500 cr hawala racket, and superintendent of police (SP) Gaurav Tiwari was removed because probe had reached people close to the top BJP leaders including state party chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan and minister Sanjay Pathak during the course of probe into the case, alleged Congress on Thursday.

After the police had unearthed hawala racket, State government had shifted SP Gaurav Tiwari, leading to massive public anger. Citizens came to streets and traders shut markets in Katni, to protest the action against the officer.

"The sudden transfer of Sanjay Tiwari and the manner in which ADG Sanjay Makwana called Inspector from Katni with the papers of investigation apart from CM's weird statement that local police can't probe this case, clearly shows how effort is being made to hush up the huge scam", said Congress chief spokesperson KK Mishra in a press conference today.

"While PM campaigns against black money, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan is challening the move by saving the corrupt. After all, if not Sanjay Pathak then whose money (Rs 500 crore) is this? Innumerable fake accounts were opened and documents forged, who got the KYCs prepared and what is the role of influential people under scanner in this huge case of black money", he said.

Mishra alleged that police was ready to arrest Saraogi brothers and Nandkumar Singh Chouhan's son and hence CM ordered the SP's transfer. He also released a photo of CM with hawala racket suspects including Sanjay Pathak and Saraogi to substantiate the claims.

"Subsequently, documents of investigation were called and senior police officials removed the evidence, so as to divert the investigation and protect the culprits", he alleged.

"Mining barons Satish and Manish Saraogi and minister Sanjay Pathak are directly linked to the huge corruption case. It is high time Pathak is removed from cabinet and CM should also resign from his post".

Mishra said that CM's statement that police can't investigate the case is laughable as under IPC and CrPC, police have all the rights to investigate the cases.

Mishra alleged that BJP's MP in-charge Vinay Sahasrabuddhe had stayed in Saraogi's bungalow in Shahdol. Saragoi is an accused in the hawala case. He also alleged that Harsh Singh stays in Sanjay Pathak's farmhouse.
