Retired IAS officer K Suresh convicted, gets jail term for corruption

BHOPAL/CHENNAI: Retired IAS officer K Suresh has been held guilty in a corruption case. 

Suresh, who was earlier chairman of Chennai Port Turst, has been awarded two year rigoroous jail term.

The case pertains to procuring Rs 12 lakh from a builder as sponsorship for his son's admission in BE (Civil) course in Anna university.

The constructoin company was running two weigh bridges and the money was obtained in lieu of favour granted to the builder. The admission of his son was made in the year 2009.

The special judge (CBI) held Suresh guilty of corruption and sentenced him to two years' prison term. Suresh is an officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre of Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

Also, he is accused in an other case in which 20 crore loss was incurred to Chennai Port Trust by alleged criminal conspiracy, involving a Singapur based company. Besides, there is yet another case of embezzlement in which he is an accused.
