Bhopal: A local court in Chhatarpur of Madhya Pradesh awarded death sentence to a man who not only raped his daughter but also killed the resultant baby by forcing the daughter to undergo abortion when she was seven months pregnant.

The court of sessions judge Bharat Bhushan Shrivastava held the crime as rarest of rare case of inhuman act by the man while handing him the death sentence. The accused Shyamlal Raikwar was also awarded life imprisonment till death to the man on charges of rape.

The incident had come to light after the Garhimalhara police in Chhatarpur reached a village (name being withheld to protect identity of the survivor daughter) on February 28 this year on getting information that body of a pre-mature baby was laying was in the local pond.

During investigation the horrible crime came to light, when the survivor daughter told the police that her father, an alcoholic, had started raping her since a year ago and threatened her with life if she told anyone. Her mother had passed away some years ago.

Raikwar also took his daughter to Delhi with him and continued to rape her there. Consequently, the survivor got pregnant.

Upon this knowledge, the accused brought her back to the village and administered her some drug that caused her to abort the seven month old foetus. The accused then dumped the body of the baby in the pond.

The police conducted DNA investigations and found the charges of the daughter to be true. The accused was then arrested and presented before court.

Considering the crime to be one of the most deplorable and rare that caused deep mental distress and lifelong suffering to the daughter, the court awarded death sentence to Raikwar under section 302 of IPC and life imprisonment under section 376.
